These Spooky Witches’ Finger Pretzel Rods with White Chocolate are a creepy, clever Halloween treat that looks like something from a haunted bakery but comes together in under 30 minutes. Made with just pretzel rods, white chocolate, and sliced almonds, they are the perfect salty-sweet snack for any Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) pretzel rods
  • 12 to 16 ounces white chocolate melting wafers or almond bark
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds (raw, natural)
  • Optional: green or purple gel food coloring
  • Optional: red piping gel or jam for bloody effect

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Station: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. If using a cooling rack, place it on top of the parchment-lined sheet. Lay out pretzel rods and sliced almonds within reach.
  2. Melt the White Chocolate: Place white chocolate melting wafers or chopped almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each, until completely smooth and liquid. If too thick, add 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening.
  3. Dip the Pretzels: Hold one pretzel rod by the end. Dip into melted white chocolate, tilting bowl if needed, and rotate to coat from tip to about two-thirds up. Let excess drip back into bowl.
  4. Create the Knuckle Effect: Place dipped pretzel on prepared baking sheet. Before chocolate sets, use the back of a small spoon or your finger to gently press 2-3 indentations along the length to create knuckles.
  5. Add the Fingernail: While chocolate is still wet, press a sliced almond onto the tip of the pretzel rod, pointed end sticking out past the end. Press gently to adhere.
  6. Add the Wrinkles: Using a toothpick or small knife, drag thin lines across the chocolate near knuckles and base of almond nail to create wrinkled skin effect.
  7. Let Them Set: Allow witches fingers to set completely at room temperature, about 15-20 minutes. Do not refrigerate unless in a hurry; if so, refrigerate for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Finishing Touches (Optional): Once set, add a tiny drop of red piping gel or jam at the cuticle for a bloody effect, or dust with cocoa powder or black luster dust.

Notes

Work in small batches to prevent chocolate from setting before adding almonds. Almond bark is recommended over white chocolate chips for smoother melting and better adhesion. Room temperature (68-72°F) is ideal for setting. Do not refrigerate to avoid condensation.
