Spooky Halloween Mummy Cheese Ball - featured image

A fun and spooky Halloween appetizer featuring a creamy cheese core wrapped in crispy bacon strips to resemble a mummy, topped with olive eyes. It is easy to make, crowd-pleasing, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6–8 strips of bacon, partially cooked
  • 4–6 green olives, sliced (pitted)
  • Optional: Black olives for pupils
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, shredded mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth.
  2. Shape the cheese mixture into a log or ball and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up.
  3. While the cheese chills, partially cook the bacon strips in a skillet or oven until slightly limp but not crispy (about 3-4 minutes). Lay on paper towels to drain.
  4. Place the chilled cheese log on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Wrap the partially cooked bacon strips around the cheese, overlapping slightly to cover it completely, leaving small gaps for the eyes. Tuck ends under or secure with toothpicks.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until bacon is golden brown and crispy. Rotate pan halfway through.
  6. While baking, slice green olives into rounds.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Press olive slices into the bacon to create eyes. Add black olive slices for pupils if desired.
  8. Let cool for another 5 minutes before serving with crackers, apple slices, or pretzels.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is softened to avoid lumps. Do not cook bacon until crispy before wrapping, as it needs to be pliable. Chill the cheese log before wrapping to help it hold its shape. If bacon unravels, ensure it was partially cooked and not wrapped too tightly. Serve warm or at room temperature.
