These adorable Halloween snacks feature mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry to look like mummies, topped with olive eyes. They are quick to make, perfect for parties, and loved by both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (17-ounce) package puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 12 to 16 mini chicken sausages
  • 12 to 16 whole pitted Kalamata olives, halved
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • Sesame seeds, optional for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Let thawed puff pastry sit on the counter for 10 minutes until pliable but cold.
  3. Roll pastry out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness, forming a 10×12 inch rectangle.
  4. Cut the rectangle into 12 to 16 strips, each about 1 inch wide.
  5. Place a mini sausage at one end of a pastry strip and roll it up tightly like a bandage, leaving a small gap for expansion.
  6. Place mummies seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving 1 inch of space between each.
  7. Press one half of a Kalamata olive into the top of each mummy to create eyes.
  8. Brush the pastry lightly with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until puffed, golden, and crisp.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Work quickly with puff pastry to keep it cold. Ensure sausages are at room temperature before wrapping. Do not wrap pastry too tightly to allow for expansion. Avoid microwaving leftovers as it makes the pastry soggy; reheat in a toaster or conventional oven.
