A fun, no-cook Halloween snack featuring a cat face made from black olives, cheese, and pretzels, surrounded by assorted party snacks.

Ingredients

  • Black olives, pitted (large, such as Castelvetrano or Kalamata)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, cut into squares
  • Pepperoni slices, cut in half (optional)
  • Cucumber slices, peeled (optional)
  • Pretzel rods, broken into small pieces
  • Mustard, yellow or spicy brown
  • Goldfish crackers or small pretzel twists
  • Assorted crackers (water crackers or round crispbread)
  • Grapes, red or green
  • Almonds or walnuts
  • Chocolate-covered espresso beans
  • Dried apricots or figs

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry hands. Place serving board on a flat surface.
  2. Arrange assorted crackers around the outer edge of the board, leaving a large space in the center for the cat.
  3. Place two large black olives at the top of the center space, angled outward, to form the ears.
  4. Place two more olives side-by-side below the ears to serve as the eyes.
  5. Place one olive in the center, slightly lower than the eyes, to serve as the nose.
  6. Break pretzel rods into small, equal-sized pieces (6-8 pieces total). Place three pieces on each side of the nose olive, angling outward to mimic whiskers.
  7. Add a tiny dot of mustard to the center of the two eye olives.
  8. Place a goldfish cracker or small pretzel twist on top of the mustard dots to create eyes.
  9. Optionally add a tiny dot of black olive on top of the goldfish for pupils.
  10. Place slices of pepperoni or cucumber behind the face to suggest the body.
  11. Arrange grapes, almonds, or other snacks around the base of the cat.
  12. Adjust any falling whiskers and fill gaps with extra snacks.
  13. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap if preparing ahead.

Notes

Use large black olives for the best size. Let cheese come to room temperature before serving. Add pretzel whiskers and mustard eyes just before serving to prevent sogginess. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to two days, replacing pretzels if they lose crunch.
