A festive and easy-to-make patriotic dip featuring a creamy cream cheese base topped with fresh blueberries and strawberries arranged to resemble the American flag. Perfect for summer parties and Fourth of July celebrations.

  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream
  • Β½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1Β½ cups (225 g) fresh blueberries, washed and dried
  • 1Β½ cups (225 g) fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • Β½ cup (60 g) mini marshmallows (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the cream cheese from the fridge about an hour before starting to ensure it’s soft and easy to mix.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest (if using). Using an electric mixer on medium speed, blend for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in a rectangular serving dish (9×13-inch recommended), smoothing the surface with a spatula.
  4. Starting in the upper left corner, place fresh blueberries tightly together to form a square representing the stars, covering roughly one-third of the width and about half the height of the dip.
  5. Slice strawberries lengthwise into thin pieces and create horizontal stripes alternating with the cream cheese base, starting below the blueberries and extending across the rest of the dish. Aim for six to seven stripes.
  6. If using, sprinkle mini marshmallows sparingly in the cream cheese areas between the strawberry stripes.
  7. Refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour before serving to firm up and let flavors meld.

Notes

Softening cream cheese at room temperature for about an hour makes mixing easier. Pat dry berries thoroughly to avoid excess moisture and sogginess. Chill dip for at least 1 hour before serving for best texture. Optional marshmallows add a playful texture. For dairy-free, use vegan cream cheese and coconut yogurt with maple syrup instead of powdered sugar.
