These festive red, white, and blue jello shots are a quick, colorful, and fun treat perfect for summer parties and celebrations. Featuring vibrant layers with a creamy middle, they offer a refreshing, slightly boozy burst that’s easy to make and enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry Jell-O powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • White Layer: 1 envelope (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream or full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/3 cup (67 g) granulated sugar
  • Blue Layer: 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry Jell-O powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a mixing bowl, sprinkle the strawberry Jell-O powder over 1 cup (240 ml) of boiling water. Whisk until completely dissolved, about 2 minutes. Stir in 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka until blended. Let it cool slightly (about 10 minutes) but don’t let it set.
  2. Pour Red Layer: Carefully spoon or pour the red mixture into each shot cup, filling about one-third full (~1 oz / 30 ml). Place the tray of cups in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes, or until firm to the touch but not hard.
  3. Make the White Layer: In a separate bowl, sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Whisk until dissolved. Add sugar and stir until dissolved as well. Let cool for 5 minutes. Stir in heavy cream gently.
  4. Add White Layer: Once the red layer is firm, gently spoon the white layer over it, filling another third of the cup. Refrigerate again for 30-40 minutes until set.
  5. Prepare the Blue Layer: Repeat the steps for the red layer using blue raspberry Jell-O powder, boiling water, and vodka. Whisk until smooth and cool slightly.
  6. Finish with Blue Layer: Carefully spoon the blue mixture on top of the white layer, filling the cups to the brim. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely set.
  7. Serve: Remove from fridge just before serving. For a festive touch, add a small patriotic-themed toothpick or edible glitter to each cup.

Notes

Use small-curd gelatin powder for easier dissolving and cleaner layer separation. Cool gelatin mixtures before pouring to avoid melting layers. Chill each layer until firm but not rock solid before adding the next. You can speed up setting by placing cups in the freezer for 15-20 minutes between layers but watch carefully to avoid freezing solid. For alcohol-free versions, replace vodka with cold sparkling water or lemon-lime soda. Dairy-free option: substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut milk or almond milk with coconut cream.
