These easy witch finger pretzel rods with white chocolate are a quick and fun Halloween treat that looks creepy but takes almost no effort. They’re salty, sweet, and genuinely unsettling to look at, making them the perfect spooky snack for parties or classroom treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12–15 pretzel rods (thick and sturdy, like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 1 cup white chocolate melting wafers (e.g., Ghirardelli or Wilton)
  • 30–40 slivered almonds (whole, long, and pointed)
  • Red gel food coloring (e.g., AmeriColor)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother melting)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval, until smooth (about 90 seconds total). If using, stir in the coconut oil.
  3. Sort through the slivered almonds and select the longest, most pointed ones for fingernails. Set aside on a small plate.
  4. Dip each pretzel rod into the melted white chocolate, submerging about two-thirds of the rod. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl for a few seconds.
  5. Place the dipped pretzel on the prepared baking sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, press a slivered almond gently into the tip of the pretzel rod, angled slightly upward like a fingernail. Use tweezers for precision if desired.
  6. Dip a toothpick into the red gel food coloring and gently dot a small amount at the base of the almond fingernail (where it meets the white chocolate) to create a ‘bloody cuticle’ effect.
  7. Repeat with all pretzel rods, working quickly while the chocolate is still melted. If the chocolate thickens, microwave for 15 seconds.
  8. Let the pretzels set at room temperature for 20-30 minutes, or until the white chocolate is firm. To speed up, refrigerate for 10 minutes.

Notes

Don’t skip the coconut oil for a smoother coating. Work in batches if making a large batch. For nut-free version, substitute almonds with candy corn or white chocolate chips cut in half. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
