  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Black aluminum foil or black wrapping paper (for presentation)
  • Dry ice (for presentation)
  • Small plastic spider rings or gummy worms (for garnish)
  • Toothpicks or small skewers (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your slow cooker: Wrap the outside with black aluminum foil or black craft paper, securing with tape. Ensure vents and control panel are not covered.
  2. Mix the sauce: In a medium bowl, combine barbecue sauce, grape jelly, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using). Whisk until jelly is mostly broken up.
  3. Add the meatballs: Dump frozen meatballs directly into the slow cooker. Do not thaw.
  4. Pour sauce over meatballs and stir gently to coat evenly.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours (or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours).
  6. Stir halfway through cooking.
  7. Check for doneness: Meatballs should be heated through and sauce thick and glossy. If sauce is too thin, leave lid off for last 30 minutes.
  8. Just before serving, wearing gloves, carefully add a few small chunks of dry ice to the sauce for a spooky smoke effect. Do not seal lid.
  9. Garnish with plastic spider rings or gummy worms. Serve with toothpicks or small skewers.

Notes

Do not thaw meatballs. Use thick barbecue sauce. Grape jelly is essential for the glaze. Handle dry ice with gloves and never seal lid. Meatballs can be made ahead and reheated.
