These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs with Crescent Roll Dough are a fun and delicious Halloween treat. Wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough with a hidden strip of cheese, they’re perfect for parties and weeknight dinners alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-sized hot dogs
  • 1 can (8-count) crescent roll dough
  • 4 slices cheese (sharp cheddar, mozzarella, or provolone), cut into thin strips
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)
  • Candy eyes (optional)
  • 1 egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. Gently press the perforations together with your fingers to seal them, creating one large solid sheet.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into strips about 1/2-inch wide. You should get roughly 8-10 strips per can.
  4. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Place one cheese strip lengthwise on top of each hot dog.
  5. Take one strip of dough and start wrapping it around the hot dog, beginning at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap (about 1/2 inch) at one end for the face. Overlap the dough slightly as you wrap. Tuck the end of the dough strip underneath the hot dog to secure it.
  6. Place the mummies on the prepared baking sheet with the face end facing up and the tucked end on the bottom. Leave about 1 inch of space between each mummy.
  7. Before baking, press two small dots of mustard onto the face end of each mummy. If using candy eyes, press them gently into the dough now.
  8. In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the egg wash over the exposed dough strips.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  10. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to prevent tearing. Don’t over-wrap the hot dogs; leave a little slack for expansion. If using cheese, make sure it’s completely covered by the dough to prevent burning. For best results, bake on the middle rack.
