A quick and easy homemade lemonade recipe perfect for summer gatherings, made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water. This make-ahead lemonade stays fresh and flavorful, ideal for crowd-pleasing at any event.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large fresh lemons, juiced
  • 2 cups (400 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 gallon (3.8 liters) cold filtered water
  • Ice cubes (for serving, not in pitcher)
  • Optional garnish: fresh mint sprigs or lemon slices

Instructions

  1. Roll each lemon firmly on the countertop to loosen the juice. Cut lemons in half and juice them using a juicer or by hand. Strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl to remove seeds and excess pulp.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups (400 g) of granulated sugar with 2 cups (480 ml) of water. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a large pitcher or beverage dispenser, combine the strained lemon juice and cooled simple syrup. Add the remaining 2.5 quarts (2.35 liters) of cold water and stir well to combine.
  4. Refrigerate the lemonade for at least one hour to let the flavors meld and chill thoroughly.
  5. Serve lemonade over ice cubes in glasses. Add lemon slices or mint for garnish.

Notes

Do not add ice cubes to the pitcher to avoid dilution; serve lemonade over ice in individual glasses. Adjust sweetness or tartness after chilling by adding more sugar or water as needed. Prepare up to 24 hours ahead for best flavor. Rolling lemons before juicing helps release more juice. Simple syrup prevents graininess and ensures smooth sweetness.
