Halloween Jello Shot Eyeballs - featured image

A spooky yet simple Halloween treat featuring translucent gelatin with floating egg white ‘eyeballs’. These shots are easy to make, require minimal ingredients, and provide a fun, creepy-cute experience for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 packets (about 1/4 oz each) Unflavored Gelatin Powder (e.g., Knox)
  • 1 cup Boiling Water
  • 1 cup Cold Water or Vodka/Rum/Tequila
  • 2 large Egg Whites, lightly beaten
  • Yellow or Orange Food Coloring (gel-based preferred)
  • Black Food Coloring or Gel
  • White Food Coloring (optional)
  • Vegetable Oil Spray (for unmolding)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of boiling water to a gentle boil. Remove from heat and add unflavored gelatin packets. Whisk vigorously for 1-2 minutes until completely dissolved. Strain if necessary to remove granules.
  2. Stir in 1 cup of cold water or alcohol. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes until cool to the touch but still liquid.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat 2 egg whites until frothy and aerated, but not stiff. Add yellow food coloring to one egg white and black to the other if desired.
  4. Slowly pour the cooled gelatin mixture into the bowl with the egg whites while gently stirring to incorporate without deflating the air bubbles.
  5. Carefully pour the mixture into serving cups, filling them about 3/4 full. The egg white mixture should rise to the top to form the ‘white’ of the eye.
  6. Using a toothpick, add a tiny dot of black food coloring to the center of each white cloud to create the pupil.
  7. Place the cups in the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, until set.
  8. Serve cold. To unmold, dip the bottom of the cup in warm water for 5 seconds and invert onto a plate, or serve directly in the cups.

Notes

Ensure the gelatin mixture is cool to the touch before adding egg whites; if too hot, the egg whites will cook and sink. For non-alcoholic versions, substitute vodka with fruit juice. Fresh pineapple juice prevents gelatin from setting; use canned juice instead. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
