These creamy overnight peanut butter banana oats require only 4 ingredients and 5 minutes of prep. The fridge does all the work, delivering a chilled, pudding-like breakfast that’s kid-approved, customizable, and perfect for meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (50g) rolled oats
  • 1 medium ripe banana (the riper the better)
  • 2 tablespoons (32g) creamy peanut butter (natural preferred, stirred well)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk of choice (whole milk, oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana: Peel the ripe banana and place it in your jar or a small bowl. Use a fork to mash until mostly smooth with a few small lumps remaining.
  2. Add the peanut butter: Spoon 2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter on top of the mashed banana. If the peanut butter is cold and stiff, microwave for 10 seconds to soften.
  3. Add the oats: Pour in 1/2 cup of rolled oats. Give everything a quick stir to start combining.
  4. Pour in the milk: Add 1/2 cup of your chosen milk. Stir thoroughly until all oats are coated and peanut butter is fully incorporated (no streaks remaining). The mixture will look liquidy—that’s normal.
  5. Seal and refrigerate: Put the lid on your jar or cover your bowl tightly. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours, but overnight (8-12 hours) is best.
  6. Enjoy in the morning: Take the jar out of the fridge and stir well. If too thick, stir in an extra tablespoon or two of milk. Top with fresh banana slices, a drizzle of peanut butter, or a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Notes

Use rolled oats, not instant or steel-cut. Mash the banana thoroughly for best texture. If using natural peanut butter, stir well before measuring. For a thicker consistency, use slightly less milk; for looser, add more. Let the oats sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before eating if you prefer them less cold. The flavor improves after a day or two in the fridge.
