apple cinnamon sangria - featured image

This cozy fall apple cinnamon sangria is a quick and easy 5-minute recipe that tastes like autumn in a glass. Made with simple ingredients like red wine, apple cider, maple syrup, and cinnamon sticks, it’s perfect for fall gatherings and gets better as it sits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle dry red wine (750 ml), such as Merlot, Zinfandel, or Tempranillo
  • 1 ½ cups apple cider
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup apple brandy or Calvados (optional)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2–3 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1 Honeycrisp or Fuji apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • Ice and apple slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep your fruit. Core your apple and slice it into thin rounds or half-moons. Slice your orange into thin rounds as well, about ¼-inch thickness.
  2. Combine the liquid ingredients. In your large pitcher, pour in the entire bottle of red wine, the apple cider, maple syrup, and apple brandy (if using). Stir gently until the maple syrup is fully dissolved.
  3. Add the spices. Drop in the cinnamon sticks and whole cloves.
  4. Add the fruit. Gently slide the apple and orange slices into the pitcher.
  5. Chill and infuse. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but 4-6 hours is even better. Overnight works beautifully too.
  6. Serve. Give the sangria a gentle stir. Fill glasses with ice (or frozen apple slices), pour the sangria over the top, and make sure each glass gets a few pieces of the macerated fruit.
  7. Taste and adjust. If you want it sweeter, add a splash more maple syrup. If you want more apple flavor, add a little extra cider.

Notes

Don’t skip the chilling time—the magic happens in the fridge. Remove cloves after 24 hours if storing longer. For a sparkly version, top off each glass with sparkling apple cider or ginger ale. For a hot version, combine all ingredients in a slow cooker and heat on low for 2-3 hours.
