Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix (Duncan Hines preferred)
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp lavender extract (optional)
  • 12 oz white chocolate melts or candy melts
  • Edible gold dust (powder form)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (to thin the chocolate for drizzling)
  • Wooden cake pop sticks
  • Styrofoam block or cake pop stand for drying

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, water, rose water, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  2. Pour batter into a greased 9×13 inch pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cake cool completely on a wire rack (about 1 hour).
  3. Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs using hands or a food processor.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and lavender extract, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  5. Add frosting to cake crumbs a tablespoon at a time, mixing gently until dough-like consistency that holds when rolled is achieved.
  6. Roll mixture into 1-inch balls and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Chill in fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Melt a small amount of white chocolate. Dip tip of each cake pop stick into melted chocolate, then insert halfway into each cake ball. Return to fridge for 15 minutes.
  8. Melt remaining white chocolate with vegetable oil in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth and shiny. Dip each cake pop into chocolate, letting excess drip off. Stand upright in foam block to dry completely (about 30 minutes).
  9. Mix edible gold dust with a small amount of melted white chocolate to form paint-like consistency. Using a small paintbrush or fork, drizzle gold over dried cake pops in thin lines. Let dry fully before serving.

Notes

If cake pops crack after dipping, let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before dipping again. Avoid overbaking cake to keep moist. Stir chocolate frequently when melting to avoid burning. Use a clean brush and light hands for gold dust application. For dairy-free option, substitute cream cheese and butter with coconut-based alternatives and use dairy-free candy melts.
